Summer meal programs aim to serve young people
The Kingston school district and The People’s Place each are offering summer food service programs to area children.
The school district will participate in the “Summer Food Service Program,” in which meals will be provided without charge to anyone 18 or younger. Through the school district, children participating in city-run summer programs at Forsyth Park, Hasbrouck Park, Hutton Park and Loughran Park will be eligible for breakfast and lunch from June 27 through Aug. 11. Children participating in summer programs at Harry L. Edson Elementary School from July 3 through Aug. 11 will be eligible for lunch, while those participating in programs at John F. Kennedy Elementary School from June 29 through July 28 also will be eligible for lunch.
Breakfast is served from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., while lunch is offered from noon to 1 p.m., according to information provided by the district.
The People’s Place is again offering its “Bag Summer Hunger” program. The program provides additional breakfast, lunch and snack foods for families with school-age children in Ulster County.
The food options include fresh seasonal local produce, dairy products, a variety of breads, a changing assortment of cereals, instant oatmeal, pancake mix and syrup, peanut butter, jelly, lunch meats, pasta, juice and snacks.
The program will be available from June 26 through Sept. 1 at The People’s Place, 17 St. James St. in Midtown Kingston. Families can use the program once a week for the entire summer. The hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Proof of residency is required.
