Farmers market opens on Main Street today

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. » The Saugerties Farmers Market, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24, will feature ventriloqu­ist and magician Steve Charney and his puppet Harry performing their unique brand of zaniness.

Other activities for children will include a water table with soap and farm animal toys; a play table to make faces and animals from food; and an art corner with local artist Anita Barbour. The market will be open Saturdays through October at 115 Main St.

Parents may visit Maynard Farm’s tent for strawberri­es, cherries and apriums. Farmers will have fixings for salads, spring onions, bok choy, beets, cooking greens and herbs. Cedar Ridge Nursery of Saugerties will offer culinary and ornamental plants, and Pura Vida Kettle Corn will make its debut. There will also be free-caught fish from Long Island Sound, meats, poultry and cheese, along with lunch and coffee selections from Delicioso Deli & Bistro and Hazelnut Cafe.
