ELLENVILLE, N.Y. » A 23-year-old Ellenville man who was charged in May for alleged criminal sexual acts is under arrest again after he allegedly broke into a village woman’s apartment at 3:30 a.m. Saturday and attacked her in her bed, police said.

The 40-year-old woman fought him off and the man, later identified as Jean Carlos Colon, fled when one of the woman’s two young daughters heard her mother’s screams and called out for her, police said.

Village police said they identified Colon and within two hours he was arrested at the bus stop on Canal Street and charged with rape, burglary, attempted criminal sexual act, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Colon was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond, police said.

The victim was treated at the HealthAlliance hospital on Broadway in Kingston and later released.

Colon previously has been arrested in May on a charge that he sodomized a woman he pulled into an alley near the Center Street taxi stand. Authorities said that victim, who did not know Colon, went to police headquarters and reported the incident. A grand jury issued a no-bill in that case, failing to indict him on the charges, said Ellenville Police Chief Phillip Mattracion.
