DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. » Bertha “Madeline” Eagan of Daytona Beach, Fla., took her last breath Monday, June 26, 2017, with loved ones by her side.

Born on July 9, 1926, in North Bellmore, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor McNaughton. After making moves within New York state throughout her life, Madeline made the “Florida sunshine” in Daytona Beach her home for over the last 20 years.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Eagan, and her first husband, the father of her children, Bradford Lape. Her siblings also passed before her: Theresa “Dolly”, John, Donald, and Eleanor.

Madeline is survived by her son, Gregory Lape (wife MaryAnn); her daughter, Mary Van Demark (husband Bert) and her companion, Robert Bower. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Brian (Deanna), Patty (Jack), Maureen (David), Kelly, and Jenny (A.J.) along with nieces. She was a proud “Gigi” to many loving great-grandchildren: Bailey Caldwell, Robbie Smith, Brandon Lape, Cameron Lape, Lauren, Tyler, Jacob, and Matthew Stevens.

Madeline was known for her flowing hair, her delicious coffee cakes, and teaching her granddaughters to be “ladylike,” as she was a lady, in every sense of the word. As a young woman, Madeline worked at the Bulova Watch Company. She married, raised her children, and kept a beautiful home before spending many days, making many memories, with her grandchildren. Always a welcoming hostess, Madeline looked forward to family visits. She always took care of others, through her service in the church rectory and in her home life. Madeline never missed sending birthday cards and warm messages of love.

In the last week of her life, Madeline whispered, “You’re all so good to me.” That’s because you were so good to us. Rest in Peace ... We “love” you.

Friends will be received Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Lasher Funeral Home Inc., 100 Tinker St., Woodstock. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Disabled American Veterans.
