PORT EWEN » Walter R. Bruchholz, 89, of Port Ewen, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
He was born in Kingston to the late Walter H. and Catherine Luensmann Bruchholz.
He graduated from Kingston High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Until his retirement in 1990, he owned and operated Bruchholz Market on Wurts Street in Kingston.
Walter was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of Kingston Maennerchor, Rifton Volunteer Fire Department, Kingston American Legion Post 150, Kingston Sea Bees Island X-9, Town of Esopus Senior Citizens and JoyceSchirick Post 1386, VFW.
Survivors include daughters, Cathy Lynn Jensen of New Paltz, Stephanie Funk of Highland and Tina Marie Smith of Port Ewen; sons, Walter R. Bruchholz of Rifton and Eric Bruchholz of Russelville, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Walter was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Ellen Chilcott; his second wife, Barbara Irwin Bruchholz; companion of 16 years, Ruth Miller; and a granddaughter, Amanda Funk.
Friends and relatives may call at Henry J. Bruck Funeral Home, 261 Broadway, Kingston, N.Y., on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. His funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Following cremation, burial will take place in Montrepose Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Walter’s name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33607.
