Region ready to celebrate 4th of July
The nation celebrates its 241st birthday on Tuesday, Independence Day.
Here’s a look at some of the planned Fourth of July celebrations in the area.
Kingston
The city’s festivities will start at 5 p.m. with live music in T.R. Gallo Park at the foot of Broadway, at the Rondout Creek waterfront. The performers will be Ivory Rose at 5 p.m., Mister Kick at 6:30 p.m. and Hot Rod at 8 p.m.
Fireworks will be shot off from the Wurts Street bridge over the creek starting at 9:30 p.m.
Shuttles to and from the waterfront will run from 5:30 until 11 p.m., with stops at Kingston Plaza and the municipal parking lot on Cornell Street in Midtown. There will also be shuttle service to and from Kingston Point.
The fireworks are being sponsored by the Kingston law firm Mainetti, Mainetti & O’Connor, along with WBPM-FM 92.9, Rondout Savings Bank, The Reis Group, WMC HealthAlliance and the city of Kingston.
Saugerties
A parade will step off at 11 a.m. on Washington Avenue Extension. Participants will begin lining up at 10 a.m., across from the Saugerties High School and extending towards the Kiwanis Ice Arena.
The theme of this year’s parade will be “United We Stand.” It will take place rain or shine.
The parade will proceed down Washington Avenue, cross Main Street, turn right onto Russell Street and then turn right onto Partition Street. At Main Street, the parade will turn left and then continue onto Market Street.
An awards ceremony will take place at the large pavilion at Cantine Field following the parade.
Fireworks will be shot off at Cantine Field after dark.
Clermont
The sounds, tastes and smells of the Colonial era will converge at the Clermont State Historic Site during the site’s Old-Fashioned Independence Day Festival.
The site will host family-friendly events and activities from 2 to 10 p.m.
The museum will be surrounded by hands-on experiences taken from daily life of the 18th century. Visitors will be able to sample a variety of activities, help raise the liberty pole or attend polite tea parties, hear selections from “Common Sense” and watch firing demonstrations by Revolutionary War reenactors.
From 7 to 10 p.m., the grounds will host the Willie Amrod Band.
The evening is to end with a viewing of the Saugerties fireworks, across the Hudson River.
Hot food will be available for purchase from several vendors.

The city of Poughkeepsie’s waterfront fireworks Tuesday night can be viewed from the Walkway Over the Hudson by people who buy tickets.
