Town officials want to know who dumped shed near park

Town Board members are searching for answers on how a old wooden shed ended up dumped near Perrine’s Bridge Park in Rifton off state Route 213.

The shed, measuring about 7 feet tall and about 8-by-8 feet of floor space, was discussed during a recent meeting. Supervisor Diane McCord said the shed was found in early June.

“All of a sudden there’s a wooden shed on our property,” she said. “It was on the side (of the road) by the waterfront.”

The park is along the Wallkill River, with the shed apparently dumped overnight when there was no traffic along the rural route.

Pictures of the shed showed handwritten markings on one of the boards stating “Global Electric Co., State University College, Old Main Building, New Paltz, N.Y.” However, town officials said SUNY New Paltz officials did not recognize the building or the company’s name.

“We called SUNY New Paltz to find out who is this guy,” McCord said.

SUNY New Paltz officials were not immediately available Monday for comment.

One wall of the shed had fallen off the main section and its roof was laying on the ground on one side of the building, while wood beams were propped up against the other side.

SUNY New Paltz renovated its Old Main Building in 2011 under a $25 million project that included energyefficiency upgrades. Information on the college website lists some of the companies that worked on the project, but it did not include Global Electric as one of the “project team” members.
