YOUTH ON THE GO
Twenty-seven Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Center students competed at the 2017 SkillsUSA State Conference in Syracuse, N.Y., on April 28.
The students performed in a host of events, ranging from competitions in public speaking, skills demonstrations and mock job interviews.
Joseph Pushman ,amotorcycle/outdoor power/turf management student from the Wallkill Central School District student, placed first in New York state in the motorcycle repair category. Pushman’s win secured him a place in the National SkillsUSA competition that took place in Louisville, Ky., in June.
Other local winners included:
• Kalina Austin, a CISCO and Rondout Valley Central School District student, placed second in the community service category.
• Sebastian Dugan ,a Cisco and Kingston city school district student, placed second in the community service category.
• Tanvir Khan, a PreUniversity/New Visions Ad-
vanced Robotics & Engineering and New Paltz Central School District student, placed second in the robotics category.
• Vidol McGriff, a Cisco and Ellenville Central School District student, placed second in the community service category.
• Carlos Perez, a PreUniversity/New Visions Advanced Robotics & Engineering and New Paltz Central School District student, placed second in the robotics category.
• Daniel Hoell, a motorcycle/outdoor power/turf management
and Wallkill Central School District student, placed third in the power equipment technology category.
• Moshe Katzin-Nystrom, a Cisco and New Paltz Central School District student, placed third in the Internet working category.
• Angelina Violante ,aCulinary Arts and Wallkill Central School District student, placed third in the cake decorating category.
