Maritza Elizabeth Ovsak was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, on Dec. 7, 1962. She entered Heaven’s gates on July 7, 2017.

Maritza was a resident of Kerhonkson for over 30 years. She worked as a bilingual domestic and sexual violence advocate, supporting immigrant families in the Hudson Valley region. She was beloved and highly respected for her dedication to her work in the community, and had impacted many lives of those in need. In her previous positions, she had worked for Kingston City Schools as a bilingual family worker for Spanish-speaking families and at Family of Woodstock as a domestic violence counselor. Aside from work, she enjoyed spending time cooking, gardening, and spending time with her three beautiful daughters. Her favorite place was the oceanside, where she found tranquilit­y and serenity.

She is survived by her mother and father, Rodolfo Mejia and Angela Mejia, of Kerhonkson; her daughters, Laura, Marissa and Kat; a brother, Rodolfo “Topi” Mejia; a sister, Judith “Martu” Mejia; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

For all who love her and wish to say their goodbyes, services will be held at Keyser Funeral Home at 326 Albany Ave. in Kingston on Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church at 160 Broadway in Kingston on Friday, July 14, 2017, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons in memory of Maritza may be made to “Maritza’s Fund” to support victims of domestic violence at Family of Woodstock, 39 John St., Kingston, N.Y. 12401, and can be reached at (845) 331-7080.
