STONE RIDGE » John C. Shelton, 93, of Stone Ridge, N.Y., passed away Friday, July 14, 2017.

He was born Oct. 15, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Clement and Mary (Jaeger) Shelton. He was married to Emma Louise (Benziger) Shelton; they wed in 1948. John attended both Fordham University and Penn State. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He spent some time as a teacher and later worked for Allied Stores, Bulova Watch Co. in New York City, and finally, as a forecaster for Lever Brothers in New York City before retiring at the age of 62. He was an avid baseball fan; his teams were the Brooklyn Dodgers and later the New York Mets. John enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, swing music, old movies, and reading.

He is survived by his children, John J. Shelton of Stone Ridge, Lawrence (Leona) Shelton of Kingston, Joseph (Carey) Shelton of Midland, N.C., Maryann Brown of Norwood, N.C., Susan (John) Istad of Rockaway, N.J.; his grandchild­ren, Brent Shelton, Kiersten Clay, Garreth Shelton, Braedon Shelton, Ceanan Tillinger, Andrew Shelton, and Matthew Shelton; his great-grand daughter, Emma Louise Clay; his siblings, Alfred Shelton and Marion Shevlin; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predecease­d by his siblings, Clement and William Shelton, and Margaret Johnson.

Entrusted to the care of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave., Kingston, where friends and family may visit on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, from 10 a.m. to noon with the funeral service starting at noon.
