Richard A. Knarich, Sr., 77, of Seaford, Del.

SEAFORD, DEL. » Richard A. Knarich, Sr. (Gramps) of Seaford, Del., passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.

Richard was born May 16, 1940 in Nyack, N.Y., the son of the late Herman (Buddy) Knarich, Jr. and Constance Evans.

Richard served his country proudly from 1960-1965 in the U.S. Army. His passion for racing began at the age of 20, and continued for 57 years racing boats and cars, winning first place at the age of 76 in Gramp’s Toy. A His laughter was infectious and would fill a room. He was a friend to all he met, and was always there to lend a hand.

Richard is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peggy Hallion) Knarich; a daughter, Genine Rose (Denny Martin); a son, Richard Knarich (Kim); a grandson, James Rose; and granddaugh­ter, Ashley Knarich. He is also survived by a sister, Connie (Charlie) Carlsen; and brothers, Martin, Arthur, and Paul Moore. Brothers-in-law, Ken and James Hallion; a sister-in-law, Kathy Hallion; several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends from both the Drag Racing and Boat Racing communitie­s. A Celebratio­n of his life will be announced in September.
