Mobile home fire displaces family of 5
No one was injured in the Thursday afternoon blaze, which is believed to have started in a laundry room.
A twoalarm fire Thursday afternoon on Oakley Road destroyed a mobile home and left a family of five homeless, according to the local fire chief.
Justin Van Wagenen, head of the KripplebushLyonsville Fire Department, said the blaze was reported to Ulster County 911 at 1:17 p.m. by a resident who was home and able to escape without injury. The other residents, including children, were not home at the time, the chief said.
He said two adults and three children lived in the home.
Van Wagenen said firefighters were on the scene 10 minutes after the call was received and had the blaze under control in about 25 minutes.
A total of about 50 firefighters from multiple companies responded, the chief said.
Van Wagenen said the fire is considered accidental and is believed to have started in a laundry room in the center of the mobile home.
He said there were no injuries to firefighters who fought the blaze in 90-degree heat.
Van Wagenen said his fire department will host a pancake breakfast Sunday to raise money for the family that lived in the home.
The breakfast is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon at the Kripplebush firehouse, 519 Pine Bush Road, Stone Ridge, and all donations will go to the fire victims, the chief said.
