Catherine Baisley, 86, of New Paltz
Catherine Baisley, age 86, of New Paltz, N.Y., formerly of Aiken, S.C., died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.
She was born June 24, 1931, in Elmont, N.Y., the daughter of the late Mark Patrick and Anna (Andrews) Sweeney. She was married to the late Richard Charles Baisley, who predeceased her 2008.
She was employed as a counselor at Mother Cabrini in West Park, N.Y., until her retirement in 1997. Catherine was a seamstress and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, macramé and count and cross stitch. She used to make the habits for the nuns at Mother Cabrini’s and the vestments for the Redemptorist Brothers in Esopus. She also made the altar cloths for Sacred Heart Church in Esopus.
Catherine was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church and a member of its Benevolent Society.
While living in Aiken, S.C., she was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and its Benevolent Society. She was also a volunteer at the Aiken Regional Hospital.
She is survived by six children: Susan Mitchell and her husband, Joseph, of Kingston, Carol Mitchell and her husband, Wayne, of Saugerties, Mary Baisley of New Paltz, Richard Baisley and his wife, Susan, of Aiken, S.C., Thomas Baisley and his wife, Beth, of Aiken, S.C. and Justina Wilson and her husband, Glen, of Michigan; 13 grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Kathleen and Diane Baisley; one son, Michael Dean Baisley; one sister, Jean McNeil; and three brothers, Mark and Billy Sweeney and Sandy McNeil.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 1055 Broadway, Esopus, N.Y. 12429, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Aiken, S.C., on Saturday, July 29, 2017.
