Clermont site hosts one-man show on July 29
WHAT: One-man show, “The Starry Road to Freedom” WHEN: July 29 at 3 p.m. WHERE: Grounds of Clermont State Historic Site, 1 Clermont Ave., Germantown DETAILS: Clermont State Historic Site and The Friends of Clermont will present a special one-time outdoor performance of “The Starry Road to Freedom,” a one-man show chronicling the life and good work of social reformer Frederick Douglass. Starring the show’s creator, Phil Darius Wallace, the play has been presented Off-Broadway and around the United States. A brief question-and-answer session exploring Douglass’ role in suffrage and other civil rights movements will follow the performance. Tickets are $8 for adults. Children 12 and under are free. It is recommended that attendees bring a blanket or lawn chair. Seating is general admission only. Barbecue to benefit Warrior Weekend in Kingston
WHAT: Benefit barbecue WHEN: July 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. WHERE: American Legion Post No. 150, 18 W. O’Reilly St., Kingston DETAILS: American Legion Post No. 150 will host a steak barbecue to benefit Warrior Weekend. Warrior Weekend provides rest and relaxation for America’s wounded heroes. The annual event takes place in Ulster County in October. Along with barbecue sliced steak with all the fixings, there will be dancing, karaoke with DJ Mickey Day, a 50⁄50 and other raffles.
