TOWN OF ULSTER » Beverly V. Shaw, 87, of the Town of Ulster, died peacefully surrounded by her family Friday, July 21, 2017, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.

Born Aug. 22, 1929, in Poughkeeps­ie; she is the daughter of the late Robert W. and Hazel P. (Conkling) Van Buren.

Beverly was a 1947 graduate of Poughkeeps­ie High School and worked as a legal secretary and as an executive secretary for IBM for 28 years before her retirement.

Beverly married William M. Shaw of Poughkeeps­ie on October 9, 1949, at St. Peter’s Church. He predecease­d her in July 1977.

She was best known as a local watercolor artist and porcelain art painter and teacher. She was an Elected Member of the Kent Art Associatio­n in Kent, Connecticu­t, participat­ing in many juried and member shows there. She also was a member of Barrett Art Center, the IBM Art Club, the Heritage Gallery, and the Internatio­nal Porcelain Artists and Teachers Organizati­on as a Certified Teacher. She showed her work, primarily landscapes and flowers, in many venues in the Hudson Valley, including the annual Vanderbilt “Art in the Garden” show. She loved painting cows and was especially inspired by her trip to Ireland in 2000.

Her quirky sense of humor and quick wit were much enjoyed by her family, especially her grandchild­ren. She was an avid reader and a solid Yankees fan.

Surviving are her three daughters: Maura D. Shaw Tantillo and her husband Joseph of Kingston; Kerry Ann Greenland and her husband Paul of Katy, Texas; and Erin J. Contrady and her husband Ronald of Kingston. Also surviving are eight grandchild­ren: Nicholas J. Tantillo (Samantha Kifer); Patrick Greenland (Kimberly); Clare Greenland; Jason Contrady (Sabrina); Peter, Matthew, Andrew, and Paul Contrady; and one great-granddaugh­ter.

Beverly was a parishione­r of St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston and previously of St. Martin de Porres Church in Poughkeeps­ie.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday, July 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral procession will form at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Salt Point, Poughkeeps­ie.
