Area business people ‘On the Move’
Ten Broeck Commons, a skilled nursing facility in Lake Katrine, N.Y., has announced the winners of its Shining Stars of Service Award, which recognizes employees who provide outstanding customer service to residents and family members. These employees are nominated through letters written by residents and family members. The winners are: Caitlin Brewster, of Highland; Barbara Dyer and Elizabeth Finger, both of Ulster Park; Patricia Halter, of Kingston; and Vivian Taveras, of Lake Katrine.
Jeff Brody, of Woodstock, has joined Finkelstein & Partners, of Newburgh, as a trial attorney.
He will be located at the Kingston office of the personal injury law firm.
Brody has practiced injury law for 44 years, including 35 years in Ulster County.
Sophie Halpern, a licensed master of social work, of Kingston, has been appointed clinical director of Personalized Recovery Oriented Services for Gateway Community Industries, Inc.
She will oversee services provided to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness.
She began her career as a social worker with Gateway in November 2015.
She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UMass Amherst in 2009 and a master’s degree in social work from Adelphi University in 2015.
Dr. R. Cenk Pekis, of Rhinebeck, has been appointed medical director of the Paul Rosenthal Rehabilitation Center at Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Pekis joined Health Quest Medical Practice, a physician group affiliated with Northern Dutchess. He oversees the hospital’s acute rehabilitation center.
The 10-bed unit offers physical, occupational and speech therapies and around-the-clock nursing to help patients achieve independence after events such as strokes, hip or knee surgery, and brain injuries.
Pekis has been a physiatrist since 1997 and has held positions at rehabilitation facilities in Florida and upstate New York, including Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare in Utica. Previously, he taught physical medicine rehabilitation at the State University of New York’s Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse and has more than 20 years of experience in the medical specialty.
He was born in Turkey and graduated from Istan-
bul University with a medical degree. In 1994, he completed an internship at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts. In 1997, he finished his residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn.
••• Monique Tranchina, of Red Hook and an AmericorpsVISTA member, has joined RUPCO, of Kingston, in its communications department.
Volunteers In Service To America is a 52-week program that focuses on “building capacity in nonprofit organizations to help bring individuals and communities out of poverty.” RUPCO is part of the New York State Rural Housing Coalition, which secured 10 service members to support the work of rural preservation companies statewide.
As editorial assistant, Tranchina will work on storytelling, social media channels, and behind-thescenes support.
••• Northern Dutchess Hospital recently appointed three registered nurse leaders to director positions:
Linda Taylor, who is relocating from New York City to Rhinebeck, oversees the intensive care unit and medical-surgical floor for patients who have medical issues or are recovering from surgery. Most recently, she was a patient care director at a New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Also, she was a nurse manager
on the general surgery, neurosurgery and orthopedic units at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Conn.
Carol O’Driscoll of Lewes, Del., is director of surgical services. O’Driscoll has been a nurse since 1987 and spent the latter part of her career traveling the country as an interim surgical services and perioperative director. Recent jobs include: Kaiser Permanente in Baldwin Park, Calif., and Berkshires Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass. She is working on her master’s degree in business administration at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa.
Patricia Husted, of Rhinebeck, is director of case management. She comes from HealthAlliance in Kingston, where she had been case management director since 2002. Prior to that, she worked as a case manager in Seattle for 10 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership and communications from Marist College in Poughkeepsie.
