Preventing falls focus of event
WHAT: Program on fall prevention WHEN: Aug. 10, with private appointments available between 10 a.m. and noon WHERE: Center for Healthy Aging at Northern Dutchess Hospital, 6529 Springbrook Ave., Rhinebeck DETAILS: The hospital’s Body in Harmony balance day returns. Private appointments can be made between 10 a.m. and noon. Each personalized evaluation includes a physical examination by a physician who specializes in geriatric medicine, Dr. Jodi Friedman. Attendees will also receive a medication review by a pharmacist and a balance and gait test with a physical therapist. A licensed social worker will be available to discuss how to cope with fears about falling. Registration is required. Church offers introduction to Spanish course
WHAT: Introduction to Spanish language course WHEN: Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27 from noon to 1 p.m.
WHERE: Parish Hall of Christ’s Lutheran Church, 26 Mill Hill Road, Woodstock
DETAILS: The church will offer a four-week introduction to the Spanish language. The informal course, called “Bienvenidos” or “Welcome,” will focus on basic language skills such as knowledge of the alphabet and simple phrases of greeting and hospitality. The class is part of a wider effort of the congregation to reach out in welcome. Participants are welcome to bring a bag lunch.
