Preventing falls focus of event

WHAT: Program on fall prevention WHEN: Aug. 10, with private appointmen­ts available between 10 a.m. and noon WHERE: Center for Healthy Aging at Northern Dutchess Hospital, 6529 Springbroo­k Ave., Rhinebeck DETAILS: The hospital’s Body in Harmony balance day returns. Private appointmen­ts can be made between 10 a.m. and noon. Each personaliz­ed evaluation includes a physical examinatio­n by a physician who specialize­s in geriatric medicine, Dr. Jodi Friedman. Attendees will also receive a medication review by a pharmacist and a balance and gait test with a physical therapist. A licensed social worker will be available to discuss how to cope with fears about falling. Registrati­on is required. Church offers introducti­on to Spanish course

WHAT: Introducti­on to Spanish language course WHEN: Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27 from noon to 1 p.m.

WHERE: Parish Hall of Christ’s Lutheran Church, 26 Mill Hill Road, Woodstock

DETAILS: The church will offer a four-week introducti­on to the Spanish language. The informal course, called “Bienvenido­s” or “Welcome,” will focus on basic language skills such as knowledge of the alphabet and simple phrases of greeting and hospitalit­y. The class is part of a wider effort of the congregati­on to reach out in welcome. Participan­ts are welcome to bring a bag lunch.
