Elizabeth “Betty” Baker Coombs, 84, of Kingston, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilita­tion Center.

Born in Calicoon, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Charles P. and Susie DeWitt Baker Sr. Betty worked for Gateway Industries for 18 years before retiring in 1985. She founded and ran with her late husband the Handicappe­d in Action organizati­on in Kingston. She enjoyed reading and was a member of the Holy Cross Santa Cruz Episcopal Church, where she acted as an altar guild. She was also a member of the Wiltwyck Gardens Senior Club.

Betty is survived by two brothers, Charles P. Baker Jr. and his wife Marion of Livingston Manor, N.Y., Neal Baker and his wife Bobbie of Virginia; three sisters, Sharon Johnson and her husband Glenn of the state of Washington, MaryAnn Abplanalp and her husband Lee of Liberty, N.Y., and Kathleen Kelly and her husband Paul of Grahamsvil­le, N.Y. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predecease­d by her husband, Kenneth F. Coombs; a brother, Frederick Baker; and a sister, Sueila Fierro.

Betty will be reposing at Holy Cross Santa Cruz Episcopal Church on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, from 10 a.m. to noon. The funeral service will follow at noon at the church.

Inurnment of cremated remains will be privately held at Holy Cross Santa Cruz Episcopal Church.
