Michael W. Welch, Sr., of Highland

HIGHLAND » Michael W. Welch, Sr., of Highland, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at Friedwald Center in New City.

Born in New York City, he was a son of the late Frederick and Patricia O’Rourke Welch.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a contractor and built many homes in the New Paltz area. He was a top life insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life and a faithful daily reader of the New York Times.

Michael is survived by three children, William Welch and his wife Stephanie of Esopus, Pamela Welch of Hyde Park and Patrick Welch and his wife Lisa of Wallkill; one sister, Suzanne Welch Polacco and her husband James of Kingston; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his son, Michael; two brothers, Hugh and Daniel Welch; and one great-granddaughter.

Michael will be reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m.

A prayer service will follow at 6 p.m.

Interment will be held privately.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105-1942.
