Director’s Challenge returns to Arts at Chocolate Factory
Arts at the Chocolate Factory, 54 Elizabeth St., Red Hook, will present its second annual Director’s Challenge over three days, starting Friday, Aug. 11, at 8 p.m.
Additional performances will be Saturday, Aug. 12, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 13, at 3 p.m.
The event will feature four playwrights, three local and one nationally known, presenting their short plays. Like last year’s Director’s Challenge, audience members will be asked to vote on their favorite play. The director who receives the most votes receives the Georgie Award, a statuette named in honor of American playwright George S. Kaufman.
This year’s plays are “Popcorn,” written by Ben Elton and directed by Richard Rizzo; “Soil,” written and directed by Amber Neilson; “For A Life,” written and directed by Cody Buser; and “Crossing Lines,” written and directed by Lydia Pidlusky.
Each short play has two cast members. the run time for each is approximately 15 minutes.
“Last year,. our Director’s Challenge was a huge success with both area students and seniors,” producer Frank Marquette said in a press release. “It gave us an opportunity to showcase our theatre and the work of local playwrights. There’s a lot of talent out there, and I’m happy to be in a position to promote it.”
Performances will take place in the theatre in Suite 2 at Arts at the Chocolate Factory.
