Driver in Taconic Parkway crash that killed four pleads guilty

- Mid-Hudson News Network

A Bronx man pleaded guilty to charges that he caused a crash on the Taconic State Parkway that killed a family of three in another car and his two-yearold child.

Nerim Sinanovic pleaded guilty in Westchester County Court to four counts of criminally negligent homicide and faces a maximum sentence allowable under the law of 1 1/3 to four years in state prison.

According to official accounts, Sinanovic, 37, was driving northbound in Yorktown on the afternoon of August 15, 2015, with his wife in the front passenger seat and their two young daughters in rear seats.

In court on Friday, Sinanovic said he took his hands off the steering wheel, turned toward the back seat and steered with his knees. That caused the vehicle to veer to the right. His wife grabbed the wheel and the vehicle swerved left, continuing up and over the dividing center median between the north and south lanes.

The vehicle became airborne and crashed into a Toyota Camry that was traveling southbound, police have said. There were three people in that car, two of whom sustained massive injuries and died within hours. A third person died one month later in the hospital.

Sinanovic’s two-year-old daughter was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other vehicles were also struck. Those occupants sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Sinanovic also pleaded guilty to one count of reckless driving and one count of driving a vehicle at speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions.
