Dorothy Frankel, 85, of Boynton Beach, Fla.
MOUNT MARION
» Dorothy Frankel, 85, of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Churchland Road, passed away after a brief illness on Aug. 10, 2017, at Kingston Hospital.
Born Dec. 13, 1931, in Manhattan, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Charles Mauger and Edith Lane.
Dorothy was predeceased by her brother, Donald, and her sister, Joan Mauger. She worked at the Paper Mill in Saugerties and in 1952 married William Till, who predeceased her in 1970. During that time they owned and operated a sawmill in Highwoods for many years. She was actively involved in her Church and community. To her family and friends, Dorothy was known as a caregiver who had a heart of gold.
Dorothy moved in the early 1980s to Florida, where she traveled with her sister Joan and spent time with her family. She was an avid photographer. Dorothy loved to dance and entertain, taking jazz, tap, and ballroom right up until her late 70s. Her family has fond memories of her trips to New York to spend the summers with them. She recently returned to the area and was surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her three daughters, Donna and her husband Stan Bondy, Karen and her husband Joe Hommel, and Pam Till; her grandchildren, John Hommel and his wife Marie, Jessica and her husband Tom Stanley; and her greatgrandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, and Kylee. She is also survived by her sister-inlaw, Rose Herdman, and many nieces and nephews. “We do not remember the days ... we remember the moments.” Dorothy’s family feels beyond blessed to have had her and our extended Frankel family in our lives.
Dorothy married her second husband, Louis Frankel, in Florida in 1984.
Although he predeceased her by 1987, Dorothy had already made a lasting mark on his relatives and has remained an important and much loved part of the Frankels for over three decades. During the ensuing years, she also fostered relationships between the Frankels and her siblings Donald and Joan as well as with her daughters and their families. Her granddaughters have fond memories of their trips to visit “Florida Grandma” and Dorothy spent many happy visits to New York traveling across the bridge to spend time with both her Ulster and Dutchess County clans! On the Frankel side of her life, she leaves behind Louis’s son, Kenneth; Anna (who adopted Dorothy as her Mom) and her husband, Dr. Howard Rothstein; her granddaughters, Lauren, Chelsea, Erin, and Samantha, along with their husbands and partners; her greatgrandchildren, Adrianna, Gabrielle, Juliette, Scarlet, and Canyon; and all those associated with the Frankel family whose lives were enriched by having known her.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at SeamonWilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette streets, Saugerties. Interment will follow in Mount Marion Cemetery. Friends will be received Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
