Althea ‘Betty’ Winfield, 88, of Tillson

Althea “Betty” Winfield, 88, a former longtime resident of Tillson, died on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck, where she had been a resident since 2014.

She was born in Goshen, N.Y., on Oct. 2, 1928, a daughter of the late William and Bethel Dolloway McEwen. Prior to her retirement, Betty worked in the cafeteria at Tillson Elementary School. She was also a former member of the Tillson Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Betty was married for 54 years to Bernard S. (Bernie) Winfield until his death on Sept. 4, 2002. Her son, Robin Winfield, also died previously on Aug. 24, 2000.

She is survived by two daughters, Hope Stoutenburg of Kingston and Spring Proper of Arizona; seven grandchildren, Tisha Stoutenburg, John Swinebourne, Samantha Stoutenburg, Lindsay Gilday, Jeremy, Travis and Jarrod Winfield; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Winfield Proper and her former son-in-law, Allan Proper, both of Tillson. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., 2053 Route 32, Rosendale. The Rev. Arlene Dawber will conduct graveside services at 2 p.m. at Rosendale Plains Cemetery.
