‘No mention’ of city rally against racism
Dear Editor, I have been a supporter of this newspaper for many years by having a daily subscription. But I find it distressing that I find no mention in it of the rally that occurred on the evening of in Kingston to protest racism. I read a notice of the event in this newspaper on Monday so the editor was aware of the event.
By a rough count, over 500 hundred people attended, standing on both sides of Broadway. All carried signs protesting racism and fascism in our country, greeted each other with warm friendship. Passing cars honked in support. This large number of protesters in our community is really significant.
Such demonstrations occurred in many communities across the country, as reported in many media.
We are a united country in support of true democracy for all people. Rosalind Stark Kingston, N.Y.
Editor’s note: The Freeman published two photographs of the rally with captions on the front of the Aug. 15 print edition, packaged with our story about local GOP leaders saying Trump had not acted definitively enough to condemn the violence. Online, we posted 95 photos of the rally, a short story, a 360-degree video of the rally, and a conventional video of the rally. The 360-degree video of the rally was posted to our Facebook page, where it has recorded more than 12,000 views. On Aug. 16, the Freeman published on the front page of its print edition a story on the comments of the mayor of Kingston about the Charlottesville incident and the story referred to the Monday rally in Kingston. The story included another front page photograph of the rally. Both the story and the photograph were also published online. We do very much appreciate your continued support.
