Joseph Michael Thomas, 76, a lifelong resident of Tilden Street, Port Ewen, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Northern Dutchess Hospital, while in the comforting presence of his family.

Joe was born in Kingston, N.Y., on June 27, 1941, a son of the late George M. and Adela H. (Bolechowic­z) Thomas.

A graduate of Kingston High School, Joe was employed at the Hudson Cement Plant in Kingston for several years before working as a driver for United Parcel Service for 10 years, before illness forced his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially for trout. A parishione­r of Immaculate Conception Church, he was a member of the White Eagle Benevolent Associatio­n.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Ann (Sutherland) Thomas; their two sons, Michael Joseph Thomas, and his wife Kyla Bockelmann-Thomas, of Kingston, and Jeffrey George Thomas, and his wife, Elisabeth Cascalheir­a-Thomas, of Alexandria, Va.; one granddaugh­ter, Sunra M. Thomas; three nephews, Richard Delgado, and his daughter Alivia, of Saugerties, Joseph Delgado, and his daughter Emma, of Rochester, and Jonathan Delgado, of Wildwood Crest, N.J.; cousin, Kathleen Heitzman, and her husband David, of Kingston; and sister-in-law, Rosemarie Delgado of Cape May, N.J.

He is predecease­d by his brother, George Thomas.

The family has entrusted the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, with the care and funeral arrangemen­ts for Joe.

The funeral procession will form 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, thence to Immaculate Conception Church, Kingston, where The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, the Rev. Lou YaYa, celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kingston.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to Mass from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday.
