- Freeman staff

George Faccio is serving time in connection with the 2001 shooting death of a Latin Kings gang member.

A former Cairo resident convicted in connection with the killing of a Latin Kings gang member has been denied parole for a third time.

George Faccio, 46, was denied parole following an Aug. 16 hearing at the Greene Correctional Facility.

Faccio was found guilty of conspiracy by a Greene County Court jury in the July 2001 shooting death of J.J. Huntt, though he was acquitted of murder. He is serving 12.5 to 25 years in state prison.

In its ruling, the parole board said its decision was based on Faccio’s “poor compliance” with state prison rules, including “violent conduct and fighting violations” in January 2017. The board also noted Faccio’s prior criminal record, which dates to 1994.

Faccio previously was denied parole in the Huntt case in 2013 and 2015. He is scheduled to appear before a parole board again in August 2018.

A transcript of last week’s parole hearing was not immediately available.

Huntt was killed July 1, 2001, in a wooded area of Cairo. Faccio, then 30 and an alleged leader of the region’s Latin Kings street gang, drove the car that took Huntt, 23, of Hudson, to the place of his murder, authorities have said.

Latin Kings gang member Danny Rodriguez was convicted of murder for shooting Huntt and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. One of the other gang members who was present, Isaac Torres, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years in state prison.

Faccio’s twin brother, Daniel, who allegedly was the upstate leader of the street gang and who was charged with being the one who gave the order to kill Huntt, was acquitted on all charges.
