A 21-yearold man has been charged with two felonies for allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend in her Saugerties apartment, police said Tuesday.

Damien R. Nace, of 199 Clifton Ave., Kingston, and U.S. Route 9W, Saugerties, was charged Monday with the felonies of assault and burglary, and he also is to be charged with the misdemeanors of obstruction of breathing/blood circulation, criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the Saugerties Police Department.

Police said officers responded at 3:54 p.m. Monday to a reported domestic dispute at an apartment on Route 9W. When they arrived, they found a 26-yearold woman who had suffered several cuts to her arm and hand, police said. They said she told officers that her ex-boyfriend, Nace, refused to leave the apartment and began to argue with her.

Nace reportedly then began to assault the woman, kicking her and knocking her to the floor, then jumping on top of her and choking her with one hand while striking her with the other, police said. Police said the woman was able to free herself and run to a bedroom, where she locked herself inside and used her cell phone to call 911.

Police said the woman reported Nace then kicked in the bedroom door and began to assault her again. The woman said Nace threw her down on the bed and began choking her and cut her with a knife, police said.

The woman said Nace stopped assaulting her when he heard sirens, police said.

Police said they found Nace hiding in a bathroom in the apartment and took him into custody.

Nace was arraigned in Saugerties Town Court and sent to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, and an order of protection was issued on behalf of the woman, police said.

The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics from Diaz Ambulance, police said.
