Red Hook opens season with win over Marlboro

Red Hook scored four times in the last 20 minutes of its season opener to defeat Marlboro, 5-1.

Red Hook High scored four goals in the final 20 minutes to pull away for a seasonopen­ing 5-1 win over Marlboro in Mid-Hudson Athletic League girls soccer action Wednesday.

“It was a close game for the majority of the time,” Marlboro coach Keith Walker said. “Red Hook dominated the possession and Marlboro played solid team defense. The pressure from Red Hook midfield eventually broke down the defense late, allowing it to capitalize with three well-taken goals to secure the win.”

Grace Hennig scored on AJ Fuchs-White’s assist just before halftime to put the Raiders ahead.

Lizzy Lofaro’s goal off Hannah Sullivan’s assist tied it for Marlboro early into the second half.

Hennig broke the deadlock

at the 60th minute, then Fuchs-White tallied on Tessa Husted’s pass and Cassandra LaBarbera scored twice in a six-minute span to clinch the victory.

Amber Serrano made nine saves for the Raiders, while Duke goalkeeper Alyssa Macur stopped a dozen shots. Highland 6, Rondout 0

At Highland, Teresa Mazzella had three goals and one assist and Brooke Harris added a pair of goals and three assists

to pace the Huskies to an opening-day victory.

Emily Peterson also pitched in with a goal and one assist. Mia Beck set up Harris’ first tally.

Mollee Stafford had seven saves for Highland, while Erin Klune made 14 for Rondout Valley. Rhinebeck 8, Pine Plains 0

At Pine Plains, Samantha McClenahan and Libby Callahan each had two goals and an assist, Stephanie Cassens and Esther Murray added a goal and one assist and both Kaya Binnetti and Caroline Voorhis also scored to lead Rhinebeck to the win.
