Ellenville, Red Hook chalk up victories

After a scoreless first half, Ellenville High scored three goals in 15 minutes to break a 1-1 tie en route to a 4-1 win over Millbrook in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League boys soccer match Thursday.

The Blue Devils struck first when Brandon Gonzalez connected on a Justin Guiliano assist in the 43rd minute to make it 1-0. Erik Censi then answered back with the equalizer on an unassisted free kick in the 50th minute, but William Calderon would put one between the posts off a Kawshar Biswas assist to give (1-1) Ellenville a 2-1 lead. Justin Guiliano pushed the lead to 3-1 off a Tim Placide assist in the 55th minute, and Christian Stinehour kicked one in off an assist from Gonzalez to give the Blue Devils their final goal.

“Both teams came out a little timid and the only real

chances in the first half were shots from distance that each keeper was able to save comfortably,” Ellenville coach Maxwell Mead said. “The game opened up more the second half with some endto-end action.

“We were in control after we scored the first goal, only to give up a free kick. I was really proud of their response to go back down and score a minute later and then make it 3-1 soon after that,” Mead added.

Daniel Mahany had six stops for the Blue Devils and Jahaziel Jimenez recorded eight for the Blazers in the loss. Red Hook 6, Marlboro 0

At Red Hook, the Raiders opened the season by blanking Marlboro.

Colin Sullivan opened the scoring with a goal in the 11th minute. Jonathon Leon added another in the 16th and David Rendon added a third in the 20th minute to give Red Hook a 3-0 lead going into the half.

Owen Sagerman put one between the posts in the 51st minute, Hayden Campalong added another four minutes later and Jason Allen wrapped up the scoring the 60th minute.

Ryan Hobson had three saves in the first half and Joe Tanzi recorded six in the second for the Raiders in the win. Jawad Haidaoui stopped 11 for the Iron Dukes.
