Betty Jane Platt, 90, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at the Golden Hill Care Center in Kingston, where she had been a resident for the past four months, having made her home on Route 28 in Shandaken for decades.

She was born Christmas Eve 1926 in Chichester, daughter of the late Claude and Ella Mae Jones Ashley.

A native and lifelong area resident, Betty had been a waitress at the Four Seasons Restaurant many years ago. She liked spending time outdoors, and camping trips with her family. She was an excellent cook who often hosted others, and enjoyed playing cards with the crew. Betty was direct, feisty, and had a heart full of love for her family. She was predecease­d by her husband, Roy Platt, in 1999, and son, Bruce, in 2010.

Surviving are her daughter, Dolores and her husband Joe Rotella; sisters, Edna Cole and Joyce Dent; three grandchild­ren; seven great-grandchild­ren; three great-greatgrand­children; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predecease­d by her siblings, Fred, Lynn, John, Millicent Fichtner, and Grace McNeed.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of Betty will be held today at 10 a.m. at E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main St., Phoenicia.
