Jane Elizabeth West, 87, of New Paltz

Jane Elizabeth West, 87, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning Sept. 5, 2017.

She was born May 4, 1930, to Ira and Ada Baisley, lived in her hometown of Stony Point, N.Y., until 1962 when her family moved to New Paltz.

Jane worked for the Town of New Paltz from 1966 until her retirement in 1985. During that time, she served as Deputy Town Clerk, Town Clerk, Tax Collector, and issued marriage licenses. Upon retirement, she lived in Florida and Kentucky before returning to her home state of New York.

Jane is survived by her four children, Gail (Carmen) Messina of Marlboro, N.Y., Carol (Bruce) Keeping of Gardiner, N.Y., Nancy (Bill) Blackford of Creede, Colo., and Jon (Sailene) Ossman of Venice, Calif.; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Barbara (Bob) Ewell of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and Naples, Fla.; one niece and one nephew; and many friends, especially Bill Sheeley and Nancy Whelan.

She was predeceased in death by her parents and dear aunt, Margaret Bedford.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at the Elant in Goshen for their kindness, compassion and loving care. We are blessed to have such wonderful people in our midst - they are angels on earth.

Visitation will be held at The DiDonato Funeral Home in Marlboro, N.Y., on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral, presided over by Reverend David L. Mason, will be in Union Presbyterian Church, Balmville, on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a favorite charity is suggested.
