Mr. George Thomas Ates of Port Jervis, N.Y., died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown. He was 70.

Born Jan. 17, 1947, in New Orleans, La., to John and Emma Alfreda Stevens Ates.

George served in the U.S. Army First Infantry Division during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Joseph C. Hassett VFW Post #686, Kingston, NY.

He was a School Bus Driver in the Greenwich, Conn., School District.

George married Barbara J. Thorp on July 3, 2012, in Port Jervis, N.Y.

A family statement read: A loving, proud, amazing husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother, and uncle. He was an avid fisherman, wonderful story teller who served his country honorably in troubled times. You will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege to meet you and call you friend.

Surviving are wife, Barbara Ates; sons, Richard Ates, George Ates, Douglas Toth, Artie Fiorentino, Balint Kollbeck, Alex Toth, Lawrence Weeden; daughters, Annmarie Klonowski, Darlene Clark, Melissa Norman, Jessica Bedford; brothers, Robert Ates, Daniel Antonetti, James Antonetti; 23 grandchild­ren and three greatgrand­children. Also several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife Brenda Joyce Green.

He was predecease­d by his wife Lois Mae Ates.

Visitation at GRAYPARKER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis on Sept. 7, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Sept. 8, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, N.Y.
