Child car seat check at ShopRite Sept. 17
The New Paltz Police Department will be participating in National Child Passenger Safety Week which runs from Sept. 17 through 23.
As part of their effort, the New Paltz Police Department will be conducting a child passenger safety check on Sunday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at ShopRite supermarket,, 258 Main St., New Paltz. The checkpoint will be in the northeast corner of the parking lot.
Safety seat technicians from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and SUNY Ulster will assist with the safety seat check.
Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13, according to a press release from the New Paltz Police Department.
No appointment is necessary for the seat check. However, appointments can be made for child seat inspections and installations at the New Paltz Police Department throughout the year by calling (845) 255-1323.
Chronic disease workshop offered
The YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County will offer a free chronic disease self management workshop for individuals with chronic conditions including asthma, hypertension, COPD, heart disease, arthritis chronic fatigue, and obesity. Caregivers and those who know someone with a chronic disease are also welcome.
The six-week workshop, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Oct. 4 to Nov. 8, is open to YMCA members and non-members.
An information session will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the YMCA, 507 Broadway, for those interested in learning more about the workshop.
The program will teach participants techniques to manage symptoms, provide healthstyle tips in exercise, nutrition, and stress management and help participants reach their goals.
