SAUGERTIES, N.Y. » Undefeated Cornwall High, behind the rushing of T.J. Gayle, defeated Saugerties, 25-12, in an early-season Section 9, Class A football showdown on Saturday.

Gayle rushed for 282 yards for the (2-0) Green Dragons and scored four touchdowns in the win. Quarterbac­k Kieran Kreider, meanwhile, was 13 of 24 for 147 yards and a score.

The Sawyers, who had a tough loss last week to Port Jervis, fell to 0-2. Liberty 21, Rondout 20

At Liberty, Roy Penn-Cosentino had three touchdowns, the final one coming on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter, to fuel the win.

Penn-Cosentino had 17 carries for 73 yards, with two scores — including a 27-yard touchdown — and caught three passes for 103 yards and a 55-yard scoring pass

from Carter Harman. Harman, meanewhile, was 5 of 10 for 129 yards.

Austin Wells accounted for all three scores for the (0-3) Ganders, scoring on a pair of touchdown runs and returning an intercepti­on 62 yards for another score.

Matt Kelly completed 8 of 17 passes for 112 yards in the loss, while A.J. Parete rushed for 41 yards on 14 carries for Rondout. Tri-Valley 24, Onteora 0

At Boiceville, Chase Botsford rushed for 248 yards and a touchdown, with Drew Hartman rushing for 89 yards and a score, to lead (2-0) Tri-Valley.

The Tri-Valley defense, meanwhile, limited quarterbac­k Miles Eberhardt, who accounted for nearly 600 yards offense in his varsity debut, to 4 of 9 passing for 32 yards. Chris Smith, meanwhile, ran for 22 yards on four carries for the (0-2) Eagles.

Sam Cogan led the Onteora defense with eight tackles and five assists and boomed punts of 57 and 52 yards, while Smith had seven tackles and five assists. Luke Kasell, meanwhile, contribute­d a fumble recovery. O’Neill 25, Red Hook 7

At Highland Falls, James Mautautia rushed for 225 yards and two scores to lead (1-1) O’Neill.

Phillip West accounted for a score on an intercepti­on return, while quarterbac­k Luke Kilner added a rushing touchdown.

Tanner Guidi rushed for 118 yards and had the (0-2) Raiders’ lone score on a 53yard run, while Tristen Schiafo led the Red Hook defense with 14 tackles. Rye Neck 39, Pine Plains 13

At Rye Neck, Matt Funk rushed for 75 yards and caught a pair of touchdown catches in the loss for the (11) Bombers.

Matt Beam was 5 of 13 for 127 yards, while Evan Proper rushed for 52 yards on 14 carries in the loss.

Pedro Peter Cueto rushed for 88 yards and three scores and had 203 all-purpose yards to lead (1-1) Rye Neck.
