Gastin, Gavis power Kingston to MHAL win

Brooke Gastin had two goals and an assist, while Meghan Gavis added two goals, as Kingston High shut out Onteora 8-0 in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League field hockey contest.

Bridgie Loughlin, Jaylynn Davis, Kelsey Fairley and Tori Quick had a goal each, while Madi Beisswenge­r added an assist for the Tigers. Analise Amato and Lizzy Smith, meanwhile, combined for two saves to preserve the shutout.

“Kingston started out very slow but picked up the pace,” Kingston coach Samantha Ward said. “They are showing great maturity and growth and I am very proud of their progress. Onteora played very well and is a very competitiv­e team.

“They kept us on our toes, knocking on the door till the end.”

At North East, Lea Smith scored a pair of goals in the final minutes to lift unbeaten (4-0) Rondout Valley to victory. She scored off Erin Weimann’s pass on a penalty corner to break up a scoreless battle with the (0-2) Warriors with 6:25 remaining. She tacked on an unassisted insurance goal with 1:24 left.

Courtney Smith didn’t have to make a save to post the shutout. Gabby Van Anden made four saves for Webutuck. Ellenville 3, Rhinebeck 0

At Rhinebeck, Megan Eckert made five to preserve the shutout for the Devils.

Abigail Narbaiz and Ashlyn Rivera scored goals to give Ellenville a 2-0 halftime lead before Mia Unverzagt scored to ice the victory. Savana James, meanwhile, contribute­d an assist in the win.

Grace Johnson made 16 saves for the Hawks, who were outshot 24-10. Pine Plains 4, Spackenkil­l 0

At Pine Plains, Sadie Norman and Bella Torre had a goal and an assist each to lead the (1-1) Bombers in their home opener.

Keara Nielsen and Holly Bay scored goals, while Jackie Povall added an assist, as Pine Plains outshot the (1-1) Spartans 27-0. Alice Wilser and Angelina Mannino were in goal for the Bombers.

Liz Schowerer had 22 saves in the loss.
