Kingston sweeps NFA in OCIAA Division I opener

Kingston High opened its OCIAA Division I volleyball season with a 25-18, 25-12, 26-24 sweep of Newburgh Free Academy. Tori Boulay (20 assists, five kills, five aces, four digs) led the Tigers.

Unbeaten Rondout Valley scored a 3-0 win over Red Hook in Mid-Hudson Athletic League field hockey.

Lea Smith and Kirsten Borchert each scored a goal, Courtney Coffey had a goal and one assist and Erin Weimann dished out two assists to lead the Ganders. Rondout is 4-0 in the MHAL and 7-0 overall.

Defensive play by Red Hook’s Olivia Ranieri and Elissa Rhynders kept the game scoreless until Weimann set up Smith’s tally just before halftime. She assisted on Coffey’s goal 4:55 into the second half for the 2-0 advantage.

Courtney Smith didn’t have to make a save to record the shutout. Julianna Shaffrick had three saves for Red Hook. Kingston 9, Rhinebeck 0

At Kingston, Meghan Gavis had two goals and two assists, Riley Fitzgerald scored twice, Brooke Gastin added a goal and one assist and Abbie Mayone, Alex Lettre, Norah Prizzi and Tori Quick also scored to lead the (4-0) Tigers. Madi Beiswenger and Jalynn Davis also had assists in the triumph.

“We played well as a team and it was nice seeing everyone get touches. We worked like one unit,” Kingston coach Samantha Ward said.

Lizzy Smith and Analiese Amato combined for one save in goal for Kingston. Grace Johnson stopped 15 shots for Rhinebeck. Onteora 0, Pine Plains 0

At Pine Plains, the (12-1 Bombers and (2-1-1) Onteora played to a draw featuring plenty of midfield play. Pine Plains’ Olivia Trevena, Cortney Conley and Claire Norman stopped scoring opportunit­ies for Onteora in the overtime.

Onteora goalkeeper Mia Quick made four saves and Pine Plains’ Alice Wilser had 10.
