Newburgh Free Academy posts win over Kingston

Newburgh Free Academy handed Kingston High a tough 6-1 loss in Orange County Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n Division I girls tennis action on Wednesday.

Christina Demosthene­s provided the Tigers with their only win with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at fourth singles over Sabrina Rivera.

Kingston lost the other three singles matches in three sets.

In two of those, the Goldbacks rallied after dropping the first set with Ribbhi Patel defeating Vyda VanDenburg 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, and Ecta Patel downing Patricia Kuster 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. Lila Shi Freeman forced a third set at first singles for the Tigers, but lost 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 to Isabelle Goings-Perot.

Newburgh is now 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the division. Kingston, 1-3 division and 1-6 overall, is back in action Monday at Valley Central. Isabelle Goings-Perot (NFA) def.
