DETAILS: The Kingston Parks and Recreation Department will be sponsoring a bus trip to the “Radio City Christmas Spectacular,” starring The Rockettes. The show is Dec. 8 and starts at 2 p.m. The bus will leave from the Cornell Street parking lot at 8 a.m., giving participants time to explore the city. The cost is $115 for city residents and $120 for non-residents.

Writers workshop for seniors starts Sept. 27
WHAT: Writers workshop for seniors
WHEN: Sept. 27, Oct. 11 and 25, Nov. 8 and 22, and Dec. 13 and 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30p.m.
WHERE: Mescal Hornbeck Community Center, 56 Rock City Road, Woodstock
DETAILS: Writers at all levels of experience, beginner to expert, are invited to join the Writers Workshop of the Woodstock Senior Recreation Program. Whether interested in non-fiction, short stories, plays, memoir, or poetry, writers age 55 and above may join the group, which meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. The workshop stresses trying out new forms and content in a supportive atmosphere. No fee is required. The workshop is led by experienced writer, editor and instructor Lew Gardner.

Tivoli Library offers after school workshop on Oct. 18
WHAT: After school workshop WHEN: Oct. 18 from 4:30 to 5:30p.m. WHERE: Third floor of Tivoli Free Library, 86 Broadway, Tivoli
DETAILS: The library will be presenting Shakespeare Story Theatre, an after school workshop for 8- to 12-yearolds, with New Genesis Theatre. Running away from a frightening world and a wicked tyrant, Rosalind and Celia find love, happiness and lots of sheep in The Forest of Arden. Workshop participants will be part into the action by playing a character as the story unfolds, participate in the wrestling match, dance in the group sheep dance, and post love notes on the bushes and trees. The format is very improvisational. No prior practice or experience is needed to participate. Registration is required.

Town of Hyde Park Historical Society meets Sept. 26
WHAT: Town of Hyde Park Historical Society meeting WHEN: Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. WHERE: Fellowship Hall of the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 1 Church St., Hyde Park
DETAILS: The society will host a talk by muralist, Franc Palaia, who will speak about his new mural on the north side of the building on Route 9 and Pinewoods Road in Hyde Park, as well as his other endeavors. All are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served, followed by a short business meeting.

Nature museum schedules adult program
WHAT: Adult program, “Ponds & Prosecco”
WHEN: Sept. 30 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
WHERE: Hudson Highlands Nature Museum’s Outdoor Discover Center, Muser Drive, Cornwall-on-Hudson
DETAILS: The museum isn’t only for children. The museum will host its new adult adventure, “Ponds & Prosecco” at the Outdoor Discovery Center. Get down and bubbly while learning about the unique and amazing traits of the wetland ecosystem. Sip, stroll and see what lives below the surface of the museum’s ponds that are teeming with life. Said the museum’s Education Manager Megan Hoffman in a press release, “Macroinvertebrates are an important part of the pond’s food web and can shed light on the health of the aquatic ecosystem. Not only that, but they have fascinating behaviors and often go unnoticed!” Admission is $20, $15 for members. Preregistration is required.
