Unbeaten Rondout wins; Kingston dealt first loss

The Rondout Valley field team remained undefeated, while Kingston absorbed its first loss during non-league action. Rondout beat Taconic Hills 4-0, while Lakeland downed Kingston 7-0.

Rondout beat Taconic Hills 4-0, while eighttime defending state Class B champion Lakeland downed Kingston 7-0.

At Kyserike, Lea Smith had two goals and an assist, Kirsten Borchert had a goal and one assist, Courtney Coffey also scored and Elyssa DeWitt and Erin Weimann each had assists to lead the Ganders.

“They were really tenacious at keeping the ball in the circle,” said Rondout Coach Nanette Simione, whose team outshot Taconic Hills 14-2 and had 10 penalty corners.

The match remained scoreless until Smith scored off a Borchert assist with 17:25 left to play. She tallied again on a DeWitt pass two minutes later.

At Shrub Oak, Kelsey McCrudden had a goal and two assists and six other players scored to lead Lakeland, which improved to 8-0 on the year.

Kingston is now 4-1 overall. John Jay 2, Pine Plains 0

At Pine Plains, breakaway goals by Makena Mohl in the first half and Alyssa DeMichael in the second carried (3-5) John Jay to the non-league win. Hannah Reck and Isabelle Vinciguerr­a had the assists.

Alice Wilser had five saves and the midfield play of Holly Bay, Cortney Conley and Kaitlyn Weise kept (2-3-1) Pine Plains in the match.

“Our stickwork was great today. We just ran out of steam and John Jay made us pay with two breakaway goals,” Pine Plains coach Debbie Beam said.

John Jay goalie Lauren Kelly had one save.
