Kingston drops season finale

Kingston High’s girls tennis season came to end Wednesday as Pine Bush edged the Tigers 4-3 in the teams’ regularsea­son finale.

Lila Shih Freeman, Vyda Van Denburg and Christina Demosthene­s all won for Kingston in straight sets. Freeman downed Skye Hall 6-4, 6-3, Van Denburg held off Madeline Roche 7-5, 6-2, and Demosthene­s defeated Julianne Lee 6-1, 6-1.

The Tigers finished the season 1-12 overall and 0-8 in the Orange County Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n’s Division I. Pine Bush ended up 4-4 in the division and 7-6 overall. The (1-0, 5-0) Huguenots are fresh from a 47-6 win over Red Hook. New Paltz has allowed just three touchdowns in the past three weeks and six overall for the season.

Rondout (0-1, 1-4) looks to rebound from its loss to Marlboro. Rondout and Red Hook, which play each other next week, are vying for the final postseason berth in Division I.

Ellenville (1-0, 3-2) won its third game in a row and continued its outstandin­g defensive play with a 32-7 win over Pine Plains. The Blue Devils, who have allowed just four TDs in the last four games, would take sole possession of first place in Division II with a win over (1-0, 2-3) Dover. Goshen at Wallkill

The (0-4, 0-5) Panthers scored their first touchdown in three weeks in the 48-7 loss at Port Jervis. Wallkill takes on a (22, 2-3) Goshen squad that played Roosevelt tough and defeaated Port Jervis and Saugerties by a combined eight points. Onteora at Pine Plains

It’s a crucial meeting between (0-1, 1-4) Onteora and (0-1, 2-3) Pine Plains/Rhinebeck, with the winner getting the inside track on taking one of the three playoff berths in Class I. Onteora lost 40-26 to Dover last week. Pine Plains has allowed 71 points in back-toback losses to Tuckahoe and Ellenville. Highland at Spackenkil­l

Spackenkil­l (1-0, 3-2) has won two straight since losing to Marlboro. Highland (0-1, 0-5) has yet to score more than 13 points in any game.
