Kathryn A. Schiavone Hicks, 84, of Yadkinvill­e, N.C., and formerly of Bloomingto­n, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Sept. 20, 2017, at Yadkin Nursing Care Center, Yadkinvill­e, N.C., surrounded by her loving extended family.

Kay, as she was known to her family and friends, was born May 29, 1933, and raised in Kingston, N.Y., the daughter of the late Joseph R. Schiavone and Willabelle Cole Schiavone.

She was a longtime resident of Bloomingto­n until moving to Winston-Salem, N.C., in August 2013.

Kay held the positions of bookkeeper and assistant manager at the College Bookstore at Ulster County Community College. She served the Boy Scouts and was a member of the Bloomingto­n Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Kay was a member of United Reformed Church in Bloomingto­n for much of her life and later, Grace Community Church in Lake Katrine.

Kay’s greatest joy was her family. She loved when her children and their spouses visited her, but nothing made her more happy than when she got to spend time with any of her grandchild­ren. Kay was predecease­d by her loving husband of 52 years, Robert Hicks, and her siblings, Robert Schiavone, Dorothy Schiavone Townsend and Joseph W. Schiavone.

Kay is survived by her sons, Joseph D. Schiavone of Spring Hill, Fla., and his wife, Cindy; Gary Hicks of Virginia Beach, Va., and his wife, Debbie; John Hicks of Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y., and his wife, Kate; Trace Hicks of Delmar, N.Y., and his wife, Joanne; her daughter, Debra Hicks Granger of Lewisville, N.C., and her husband, William; 12 adoring grandchild­ren; and five great-grandchild­ren.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, Oct. 14, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at George J. Moylan Funeral Home, Route 32, Rosendale, N.Y. A memorial service will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by burial at Wiltwyck Cemetery in Kingston, N.Y.
