NASCAR has moved the start of Sunday’s race up one hour to 1:10 p.m. ET because of a strong threat of rain.

The Charlotte Motor Speedway race had traditionally been a Saturday night event, but was rained out last year because of Hurricane Matthew. It was held the next day, a gorgeous Sunday in North Carolina.

So Charlotte officials this year move the race to Sunday, but rain again is threatening to disrupt the event. Saturday’s first practice session was washed out.

Denny Hamlin will lead the field to the green flag in the opening race of NASCAR’s second round of the playoffs.

The National Gay Flag Football League is bringing its championship tournament to the Boston area.

More than 35 teams from across the country are scheduled to compete at a sports complex in nearby Lancaster through Sunday to decide the league’s next national champion.

It will be the 17th iteration of the annual event known as the Gay Bowl , which has been running since 2002 and was hosted last year in Washington, D.C.

Organizers say the New England Patriots became the first NFL team to sponsor the event this year, and that it’s also being sponsored by the Boston Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins.

The league says it aims to “foster and augment the self-respect of all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons” and to promote respect from the broader community.

Muggles are giving it their best shot at the game of wizards: Quidditch.

Middlebury College was hosting a quidditch festival on Saturday that celebrates the wizarding sport from the pages of the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.

The big difference is Middlebury quidditch players don’t fly on brooms. They play on a turf field. Middlebury College quidditch player Ian Scuba told WCAX-TV (http://bit.ly/2z5SOsX ) that one of the great things is that it’s a co-ed sport, so everyone can get involved.

All told, more than a dozen teams from around New England were participating. Saturday’s event included bands, food trucks, vendors — and even “potion” demonstrations.
