Greene man sentenced to time served in weapon case
A Greene County man was sentenced in federal court to time already served in jail — about five months — for felony possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.
Robert Twiss, 59, of Earlton, admitted that on Oct. 24, 2016, he possessed a Plainfield M-1, Model 41 semiautomatic rifle on his residential property.
According to Grant C. Jaquith, acting U.S. attorney, and Vadim D. Thomas, special agent in charge of the Albany Field Office of the FBI, Twiss’ admission was part of his March 20 guilty plea.
In sentencing Twiss on Tuesday, Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas J. McAvoy also imposed a threeyear term of supervised release.
As a felon, Twiss cannot legally possess a firearm, but authorities did not provide details of his felony record. Twiss faced a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and up to three years of post-release supervision.
