Board names interim school superinten­dent

The Highland Central School District Board of Education appointed Thomas M. Bongiovi as a full-time interim superinten­dent.

Bongiovi assumed his new duties Oct. 11.

The Board of Education voted unanimousl­y Oct. 3 to hire Bongiovi as an interim superinten­dent. He replaces Deborah Haab, who retired this fall after eight years as superinten­dent of schools. The school board hopes to hire a permanent superinten­dent by February 2018.

Bongiovi received a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in education and political science from LeMoyne College, followed by a master’s degree from SUNY Stony Brook. He holds a school administra­tor and supervisor profession­al diploma from Dowling College and a school district administra­tor certificat­e from East Stroudsbur­g University.

From 2013 to July 2017, Bongiovi served as superinten­dent of the Port Jervis City School District.
