Author of FDR book to give lecture Oct. 19

David Kennedy, Pulitzer Prize winner and Stanford University professor emeritus, will discuss “Franklin D. Roosevelt: A Twentieth-Century Life” at Dutchess Community College on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre.

Kennedy will talk about Roosevelt’s life, presidency and impact, framed through a comparison with his adversary Adolf Hitler. Kennedy is the author of numerous books, including “Freedom From Fear: The American People in Depression and War.”

The presentati­on is the inaugural event in the Dr. D. David Conklin Distinguis­hed Lecture Series, establishe­d to recognize Conklin, who was Dutchess Community College’s fourth president. Conklin retired in 2014.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
