Top seeds battle to reach MHAL semifinals
Top seeds Emily Savage of Wallkill High and the Spackenkill doubles team of Sneha Kamada and Udaya Rattan gutted out three-set quarterfinal wins to reach the semifinals of the Mid-Hudson Athletic League girls tennis tournament at Bard College.
After losing the first set on a tiebreak, Savage came back to beat Spackenkill’s Rachel Li 6-7, 6-1, 6-4. Kamada and Rattan also battled back from a first set loss to defeat Roosevelt’s Danielle Nugen and Amber Hicks, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Savage plays Ashleigh Dolan of Roosevelt in one semi, while No. 2 Natalie Meyer of New Paltz takes on Marlboro’s Grace Messenger in the other.
Marlboro’s second-seeded doubles team of Samantha Jarros and Ava Del Salto turned back Red Hook’s Dasha Latvis and Julia Bemis 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 to make its semi-
final match. They play Cynthia and Emily Ma of Spackenkill. Wiliana Lundy and Lexus Pattershall of Roosevelt will take on Kamada and Rattan.
The match of the day belonged to New Paltz’s Ariana Rodriguez, who edged Brittany DeSantis of Marlboro in a 7-6 (4), 6-7 (5), 6-4 first-round battle. Dolan beat her 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
