Two face off in supervisor race

Two candidates are facing off in next month’s election to replace town Supervisor Carl Chipman.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. » Two candidates are facing off in next month’s election to replace town Supervisor Carl Chipman.

Mike Baden and Len Bernardo are vying for a two-year term as supervisor in the Nov. 7 election.

Baden, of Woodland Ridge Road, Kerhonkson, is running on the Democratic, Working Families and Green party lines.

Bernardo, of Boodle Hole Road, Accord, is running on the Republican, Conservati­ve, Independen­ce and Reform party lines. He is chairman of the Ulster County Independen­ce Party.

In the race for the Town Board, four candidates are facing off over two fouryear terms. The candidates are incumbent Bea Haugen-Depuy, who has been on the board since February 2017, Chris Hewitt, Michael Sommer and Randall Wynkoop.

Haugen-De-Puy, of Samsonvill­e Road, Kerhonkson is running on the Democratic and Conservati­ve party lines.

Hewitt, of Sages Loop, Kerhonkson, is running on the Democratic, Working Families and Green party lines.

Sommer, of Cooper Street, Accord, is running on the Republican, Conservati­ve and Independen­ce party lines.

Wynkoop, of Queens Highway, Accord, is running on the Republican and Independen­ce party lines.

In the race for highway superinten­dent, incumbent Tony Spano is being challenged by Karl Baker.

Spano, of Lower Granite Road, Kerhonkson, is seeking his first, full, twoyear term. He had resigned from the Town Board to take the highway superinten­dent position and is running on the Democratic Party line.

Baker, of U.S. Route 209, Accord, is running on the Republican, Conservati­ve and Independen­ce party lines.

In the race for town justice, incumbent Paul Shaheen is being challenged by Vincent Nigro Sr. for a fouryear term.

Shaheen, of Granite Road, Kerhonkson, is running on the Democratic Party line. He has been town justice since 2009.

Nigro, of U.S. Route 209, Accord, is running on the Republican, Conservati­ve and Independen­ce party lines.

In the only unconteste­d election, Town Clerk and Tax Collector Kathleen Gundberg, of Denninvill­e Road, Accord, is seeking her third four-year term. She is running on the Democratic, Republican, Conservati­ve and Independen­ce party lines.
