Ellenville coach Mead gets 100th career win
Ellenville coach Maxwell Mead collected the 100th win of his career and the Devils moved closer to a sectional berth with a 2-1 victory over John A. Coleman Catholic High School.
A pair of first-half goals carried the Ellenville High’s boys soccer team to a big victory as the Blue Devils inched closer to a sectional berth and earned career win No. 100 for coach Maxwell Mead. Ellenville defeated John A. Coleman Catholic 2-1.
“I didn’t want to put any extra pressure on them and I wanted them to want the W for the team. They got the job done,” said Mead, who kept the approaching milestone hidden. It was a busy enough evening, as it was also Senior Night and the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game.
Kawshar Biswas scored on a Brandon Gonzalez assist to give Ellenville the lead. Senior Matt Lamendola made it 2-0 just before halftime off a William Calderon setup.
Brandon Davenport tallied off a Isabella Sheth assist with a minute left in the match for (5-7 Mid-Hudson Athletic League, 7-7 overall) Coleman.
Daniel Mahany had five saves for the Devils, and Coleman keeper Jax Mautone made three.
Ellenville is now 5-5 league and 7-6-1 overall and needs a win in a nonleague home match Tuesday against Eldred to clinch a Section 9 postseason berth. New Paltz 8, Rondout 0
At Kyserike, Isaac Cheruiyot and Kieran Weinstein had two goals apiece to lead New Paltz. Fernando Cuellar, Ryan Drake and Joey Richards also scored and Antonio Alvarez converted a penalty kick for the Huguenots.
Goalie Roman Hrab had a dozen saves for (1-9) Rondout Valley.
