gård), the quintessential angry old man next door. The isolated curmudgeon retiree with strict principles and a short fuse has given up on life. He spends his days enforcing block association rules that only he cares about and visiting his wife’s grave. People call him “the bitter neighbor from hell.”

So when one November morning an accident-prone young couple (Bahar Pars and Tobias Almborg) with two chatty young daughters (Nelly Jamarani and Zozan Akgün) move in next door — and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox with their utility trailer — they earn a special brand of Ove’s ire. Yet this inauspicious beginning also sparks a surprising, enlivening chain of events, featuring unkempt cats, arrogant bureaucrats, several trips to the hospital

and unexpected friendships.

Swept along in the tide, Ove is forced to change and learn to understand his neighbors and the modern times into which he has been unwillingly dragged. His neighbors also come to understand who Ove is behind his grumpy façade, including his past happiness and heartbreaks.

The film, which is in Swedish with American subtitles, runs 1 hour and 56 minutes. It is rated PG-13.

The Kingston screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion. Refreshments will be served. Attendees over age 12 are asked to contribute $5 to $10 a person.
