Phillip E. Thorpe, 80, of Tannersvil­le passed away on Oct. 21, 2017.

He was born in Catskill, a son of the late Harry F. and Winifred Dougherty Thorpe. A lifetime mountainto­p resident, Phillip graduated from Manlius Military Academy and Hobart William Smith College.

Upon graduation, he joined his father in the family automobile dealership. He owned and operated Thorpe’s Pontiac/ GMC for more than 60 years. He was very proud to have his sons and grandson follow him into the business.

Like his father before him, he served his community as Town of Hunter Supervisor. He was a member of the Lions Club and NY State Automobile Dealers Assoc. for many years. An avid Lionel Train collector, Phillip was a lover of local and American history.

Loving husband of 59 years to Linda Helmer Thorpe; father of Pamela Harmon (Jack), Penelope Fromer (Jeff), Bradley Thorpe (Marianne) and Eric Thorpe (Amy); grandfathe­r of Joshua Fromer, Ashley Dugan (Dillon), Justin and Matthew Harmon, Gregory and Michelle Thorpe; and great-grandfathe­r of Emery and Paige Dugan.

Per his expressed wishes, a private graveside service will be conducted at Tannersvil­le Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to the Tannersvil­le Evergeen Cemetery Assoc., P.O. Box 686, Tannersvil­le, N.Y., 12485.
